GRAPE:
Nebbiolo, arguably one of Italy's most noble grapes only grown in the northern regions, with its spiritual home in the surrounding Alba area. Nebbia is the Italian word for fog, thus the name likely derives from the fog that envelops the Langhe hills during the weeks leading up to harvest.
DESCRIPTION:
This is our “baby Barolo” with 100% of the fruit coming from the township of Monforte d’Alba, specifically Bricco San Pietro MGA, Manzone subzone. Soils are Helvetian in origin, compact and scattered with sandstone, calcareous marl, and clay. Wines from Monforte generally have broader shoulders than the townships to the west. This particular site has ample sunshine, facing south, with more gentle slopes.
WINEMAKING:
Fruit is hand-harvested, fermented in stainless steel, and aged in various size neutral barrels for one year, 25HL botti, 500L tonneaux, and 225L barrique. Bottled in Denver.
TASTING NOTES:
Firm, broad and structured, showing the classic seductive character of a young Nebbiolo. Red fruits such as bing cherry, wild raspberry and strawberry are wrapped in layers of garrigue, botanicals, and blood orange. Tannins are present, finishes long.
