Tasting Notes
This wine from the Ginestra UGA Barolo has a beautiful garnet color with a complex nose of red fruit, notably bright cherry and rhubarb and herbal notes of forest floor, black licorice and a hint of balsamic. A complex wine with tertiary notes of tobacco, wild roses and violets. Elegant and vibrant yet structured with muscular tannins and high acidity.
Vineyard Notes
The half-acre vineyard is located within the high-altitude Ginestra Cru of Monforte d'Alba. The famous vineyard has a southeastern exposure with clay soil composition. The vines for this Nebbiolo are up to 75 years old.
Production Notes
Grapes were hand-harvested on October 16th. The traditional long maceration took 38 days and the wine went through malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tank. It spent 10 months in tank before being transferred to a single 25hl Mittelberger botte for two years. Bottled on April 29, 2020.
Other Notes
The epic 2016 vintage produced some of the finest Baroli in a decade. Good snow melts from a healthy winter, followed by alternating cool and warm days of Spring and Summer with the perfect amount of rain in July. Autumn brought cool evenings and sunny days to maintain a balanced weather pattern that was harmonious with the ideal long maturing nature of Nebbiolo.
